There are so many ways that you can save money when you travel. Whether it’s just a short weekend trip away or a longer holiday there are deals to be had.

Find a Deal

Look at websites such as Groupon and Wowcher to see what deals they have on offer. They won’t always be cheaper but it’s worth checking as they sometimes have extra discount codes available such as 20% off travel bookings. Compare these prices with booking your hotel and travel separately as sometimes this actually works out cheaper. Booking.com is good for hotels.

Transport

If you are looking for a good deal on flights then Skyscanner is a great comparison tool. You may want to check the airlines individually to see if it comes up cheaper. Don’t forget to factor in things like baggage fees and choosing seat fees. Travel light with just hand luggage and avoid the baggage fees altogether. For cheap train fares check out the TrainPal app and compare against booking on the Trainline. Consider getting a Railcard if you are eligible. There are plenty of Railcards available such as Two Together, Friends & Family and 16-25 where you can save 1/3 off your train fare. An alternative to the train is the coach or the Mega Bus. Obviously, it takes much longer and isn’t always cheaper but sometimes there are very good deals to be had.

Accommodation

Booking.com is good for checking out deals for hotels. If you can be flexible on when you go you may be able to find a better deal for a different time of the month or year. Premier Inn and Travelodge offer budget hotel stays for cheap and they are often in very good locations. They sometimes offer their own discount codes too so keep an eye out for those.

Use Cashback Websites

Cashback websites such as Topcashback offer money-back when you book through their link. Before you book your travel have a look to see if you can get something through them before you book directly. It’s free cash and doesn’t cost you anything and it all adds up for something you were going to purchase anyway.

Food

There are so many ways to save on food when you travel. If you are eating out then check to see if there are any coupon codes available. Pizza Express often have 2 for 1 discounts. Save on bottles of water by getting free tap water instead. To save money on a takeaway you could split the main course between 2 people or save half for the next day. Instead of getting hotel breakfast get some bits in from the supermarket like cartons of juice and baked goods to have in your hotel room in the morning.

Free/Cheap Things To Do

When you are on your trip look for free or cheap things to do, like museums, libraries and walking tours. Check out when the local offers are on such as cheap cinema nights or hire a bike for a couple of hours and explore the local area.
